Welcome to The guide to hunting in the Sierra’s.
Here is a list of some of the animals you can find while hunting in the Sierra’s!!!
Whitetail Deer-- These ARE REALLY common here!! Any form of deer are usually active at night time, early morning, or late evening. They can be found near lakes and streams, or in the woods, or meadows.
Bear
Rabbit
Fox
Mule Deer
Black Tailed Deer
Mice/rats (mostly small field mice)
Several varieties of squirrel/chipmunk.
Pikas
Marmits
Raccoons
Free-range cattle (or even horses/mules), especially if the wolves come down into the foothills of the Sierras and national forest lands
Here are some animals you might find really common in the Sierra's but a wolf would not usually hunt.
Snakes (mostly gopher snakes and snakes like that, although we do have rattlesnakes)
Coyotes (which are very common)
Birds (Vultures, and several species of hawks in addition to many types of small to mid sized songbird. Stellar's Jays are super common, especially in the Sierras. They are really obnoxious too and they'll steal any food.)
Mountain lions
Bobcats
Porcupines
Extremally Rare Animals:
Elk
Mountain Goats
